Jan. 8, 2009 ( Olympia, WA) – Washington State Employees Credit Union (WSECU) is currently seeking applications from credit union members for its annual college scholarship program.

Available only to WSECU members, the scholarships can be used for nearly any accredited college program. WSECU will award 27 college scholarships this year including twenty $2,000 scholarships for students pursuing a four-year or graduate degree and seven $1,000 scholarships for two-year or vocational school students. The student must be enrolled full-time in the fall of 2009.

Ann Flannigan is WSECU’s Vice President of Public Relations.  "Over the years, we’ve helped hundreds of our members pay for the growing cost of higher education by offering these college scholarships," Flannigan said. “Being in the business of helping people achieve their financial dreams, we know of no better way than to support our members’ goals of earning a college degree."

WSECU scholarship applications and supporting materials are available now and must be submitted by March 2, 2009.

The Scholarship Committee will evaluate applicants using a range of criteria including academic record, recommendations and a personal essay. Membership in a credit union other than WSECU does not meet eligibility requirements. Recipients will be announced in late spring.
